Count Your Blessings

“Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done!”
Those are the words to an old hymnal I read as I did my morning devotional.  It took me back to being young again, hearing the adults at my parent’s church singing.

I found myself singing, humming and teaching my boys the lyrics to the song most of the morning.  As I sung, I found myself doing inventory of what I had been through, how far I had come, what I’d learned and how God has blessed me in some of the simplest ways!

Memories that literally had me saying “Oh yeah, I remember that one!”  “Yep, that was CRAZY!”  “God, you really came through on that one, didn’t you?!”

Blessings and favor!  Some prayed for while many were unexpected.  Others were mixed with bitter tears and doubts while others where steadfast in faith!

God is blessing us every single day!  All we have to do is open our eyes – spiritual and natural, to see it!

Blessings aren’t always material or financial.  Sometimes its peace of mind or a breakthrough. They could be as simple as praying to God for a good book to read that will satisfy your mind and soul and He provides it for you!  Yes, simple things!!!

Psalm 103:2
Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

Psalm 118:1, 13-14
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me.  The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.

James 1: 2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, lacking anything.

God has been so good to you, me, us!

Take some time today and mentally go through your list of blessings and favor you have received.  Better yet, write them down so the next time you’re feeling low, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness.

Have children?  Allow them to read your blessings so they can understand and see for themselves what God has done in their parent’s life.  Ask them to keep a “blessing journal” as well.  Remember, “Train up a child in the way they should go so when they get older they will not depart!”

Father we thank you for the blessings you have bestowed upon us in every area of our lives. Please forgive us for forgetting to be thankful at times.  We know that we can’t anything on our own. We acknowledge you as our Sovereign Lord and Savior. We praise you and give you glory, always and forever! Amen!

His love is pure, it’s everlasting.  His mercies are great towards us.  Let us bless the Lord at all times, and allow His praise to continually be in our mouth!

Be Blessed!
