5 Simple Things to Get Moving After a Setback

How many times have you thrown your hands up in the air when you’ve tried something and it didn’t work?  Or maybe you’ve tried giving sage advice to others and they “just wouldn’t listen”?  How about trying to help someone that seems to not want it?
It gets tiring doesn’t it?

Imagine if God felt that way towards us?  Imagine if He had the three-strikes-and-you’re-out rule?  Many, if not all of us, would be doomed!

Recently the Holy Spirit brought to my attention a matter I had become disheartened about.  He wanted me to try again.  My first indication was, “Again?  Okay.  But I’m going to need another way. The last one didn’t do so well!”

Then in my study time I read this:

“Some of the most godly people I know learned to hear God by trial and error.  Sometimes they got it right and sometimes they didn’t, but God used each mistake to teach them a lesson about hearing His voice.” ¹

There was a lesson on my horizon and whether I wanted to or not, I was going to have to take it.

There are going to be times in your life when you’ve followed all the right steps.  Done all the right things and yet, things don’t follow through as you expect.  Disappointment sets in and you feel like throwing in the towel and moving on to the next thing at hand.

But you can’t.  You’ve got to pick yourself up, dump your pride and try again! It may take you several tries but just know with each try comes a plethora of knowledge.  Knowledge you can now use to be better.

Here 5 Simple Things to Get Moving After a Setback

  • Acknowledge that you are in the mire and is in need of spiritual and emotional refueling.  You can’t overcome if you won’t admit.
  • Pray.  Pray again.  Pray some more.  Prayer is your lifeline to God.  Sometimes all you can do is muster enough of a prayer to say it to God.
  • Change the way you think.  As a man thinketh, so is he.  If you’ve been having gremlins gnaw away at your self-esteem and doubt and disappointment hanging from your shoulders, then you’ve got to kick them off and regroup!
  • Read, study and speak God’s promises pertaining to your situation over your life.  You may not feel like it at first, but, eventually, if you say and read those words long enough, you’ll start to believe them.
  • Try again.  Yes, TRY AGAIN!  Don’t allow past failures to keep you immobile.  For every success there are ten failures behind it!  Keep moving; keep believing!

Trust God to lead you in the way you should go and what you should do. In the end, it always comes out right!

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my savior and my God. –Psalm 43:5

Be Blessed!
