Learning When to Stand Still

Learning When to Stand Still

A couple days ago I was perusing a site that got me excited about what they were offering and made me want to jump on the “ACT NOW” marketing feature they had employed.

But I stopped myself.  I left the site, literally changed my thoughts and refused to entertain the idea.

I was determined to be obedient.  I was determined to past this test!

I told myself this year I was going to sit still and just wait. I would keep planting, and working and tending my vineyard (vision) but I was going to sit and allow patience and God’s knowledge teach me.

Waiting is not fun.  It requires patience.  It requires trust.  It requires fortitude.

I had a tendency to seek answers on my own when I felt God was taking too long.   Sounds familiar?   The answers I sought were thru programs, trainings, conferences, or some new shiny way of making my vision manifest faster than what God willed for my life.

Like a fish after a bait, I would bite – and end up caught.  Feeling frustrated and seeking even more answers, I would go back to God irritated with an inner restlessness that said “it wasn’t working!”

The vague feeling of needing to “just sit still” would surface yet again.

Is God placing in your heart to “stand still?”  Do you feel Him gently tugging at your heart strings to allow Him to teach you what He needs to in order for His will to manifest in your life?

The scripture Proverbs 16:9 states: In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

Now, isn’t that the truth!

I’ve got the receipts and the hard lessons to prove it!

Life lessons are good, but God lessons are better!

In order for God to use you He has to mold you into the vessel He needs.  With that molding comes a bit of teaching, applied wisdom and brokenness.

You need to be taught by God.  The wisdom and knowledge of others is great but in essence it is carnal.  It’s not enough.  You were created by God.  He knew you before you were placed in your mother’s womb. So when He seeks to teach you what you need in order to complete the work He has for you, allow Him.

God had to train Moses and David to be the leaders He required of them but they had to go through a period of waiting, learning, and mentoring.

We are all being mentored directly and indirectly from others for what God has for us to accomplish.  Moses by Pharaoh, King David by Saul, you through the teachings, trainings, books, devotionals, classes, and conferences you may attend.

But you can’t have the physical without the spiritual and expect to succeed in His will for you.  Moses and David and every other leader of God had to spend time in His training room.  That called for standing still, patience, trust, and faith.

He’s saying “Remove the voices of others and now listen to me.” “Let me teach you what you need to know to become the person I need you to be.”  “Let me guide you and show you the path I need you walk.”  “Let me show you how to sing my praises and tell of my wonders when you open your mouth to speak.” “Let me guide you in all things Me!”

Allow the time God requires to teach you to bring forth His calling on your life.  You will not be disappointed!

Be determined to climb this mountain and conquer it!

“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the LORD is about to do before your eyes! 1 Samuel 12:16 NIV
