Where’s Your Website?

by Tereciah on November 29, 2012

I’m seeing a particular issue to often and it needs to be addressed, so if I’m stepping on your toes as I write this article then, well, good!  It means you need the wisdom I am sharing with you.

So, you’ve got this burning desire to do start manifesting all God has placed within your heart.  You’ve started telling people who you are, what you do, and how you can help them and it’s starting to feel good, but now you want to expand some, take it to the next level and actually have people use your services.

Have you ever said this to yourself, “I don’t really need a website, maybe later but not now.”?  I’m doing fine without one.”?

How many times have you asked someone that’s in business or they’re trying to get you to use their services and you ask for their website address, and their response is “Oh, I don’t have one.”

Maybe that’s been you?  If so, it’s time to put a stop to it!  You need to be visible.

Recently, I received an email from someone I met a long time back who was promoting an event they were hosting. I contacted the individual to learn more about the event because of the three websites they were pointing me to in their email, none, and I repeat, none of them was their website address (a big NO, NO!).  The person proceeded to tell me that they did not have a website!

Huh?  Don’t have a website and you want someone to buy into your services?  Hmmm

People, please! Get a website!

People want to know you, see what you stand for.  Perhaps even interact with you and hopefully, if they like and trust you, do business with you.

Here are 5 reasons why you should have a website for your business.

  1. Because any business worth its salt needs one.  It’s your business face to a digital world.  Imagine a business on a storefront or street somewhere without a name.  There’s a door and there might even be people inside that passerby’s can see as they walk by, but they don’t stop or even inquire because there’s nothing there to invite them to. Who wants to enter a building that you know nothing about and has no type of identity? To the passerby that business does not exist.
  2.  It tells people who you are, what you stand for and what you have to offer without them having to interact with you until they are ready.  People want to know who they are doing business with, period!
  3. You want to connect with individuals that want and need what you have.  Have you ever searched the web for a particular product or thing and came upon a site you knew nothing about but when you read their information and followed them a bit, you got to like them because they had what you needed?  Well, that’s what you want.  Connection.
  4. Your potential to reach others all over the world – literally, is limitless. Imagine touching lives in Washington State, South Africa, the Caribbean, or even in Australia. Isn’t that what you want?  Your goal is to touch as many lives doing whatever God has placed in your heart to do, whether it’s through ministry, business or having a non-profit.
  5. Credibility.  Need I say more? No matter how small an organization you are, if you have a website then it gives the perception that you are taking your endeavor seriously.

If you’re not a do-it-yourself-er, or if you’re someone that considers yourself “technology challenged” then it can seem overwhelming just thinking about getting a website.  You may not know where to start or even how to do it.  Resources – ok, straight talk, money! – might be in short supply and you may not have the time or even want to learn something new!

Well, the truth is, this is YOUR business, ministry or organization.  You have to take the initiative to get it where God can use you to help others.   Ask people you trust to assist you.  Employ the help of a young family member that knows their way around the web.  Join groups or take free classes at public libraries or mentors online.  There are quite a few free web builder companies around, many of which you can find on the web.  You can even get a self-starter page when you purchase your domain name.  Go for a free site until you can purchase a paid one.

There really aren’t any excuses.  At the end of the day you will have to learn, barter or buy, either way, you’ve got to get out there!

Whatever you choose, just do it! It’s time to let the world know who you are!
